To enable Mobile hotspot, click the button next to it at the window's top.

A Wi-Fi bridge is useful in some situations, such as when the devices using the shared connection must access other devices on the network. If, for instance, you have a Roku plugged into your TV, the alternative isn't ideal since, if the Roku is on the bridged network, but your remote or phone isn't, the two won't be able to speak with one another.
